Other Factors to Look Out For

Apart from material, other important factors to look out for when selecting bed sheets are:

  • Thread count
  • Staple length
  • Yarn count
  • Weave type
  • Safety certifications

Thread count

Thread count is another determining factor on how soft and durable your bed linen will be. It is defined as the total number of threads woven into one square inch of fabric. It is also a common misconception that High bed sheet thread count instantly means that the beddings are of top quality and the ones you should choose but this is not the case. One more significant factor of why high thread count bedlinen may not be suitable for you is that they tend to trap more heat which may not be ideal for hot sleepers especially in Singapore. Click here to read how we debunked the myth of high thread count beddings.

Staple length

Staple length is defined as the length of the fibers in fabrics. This affects the softness of the bedlinen it is made into.

Yarn count

Yarn count is the numerical value that indicates how thick or thin a yarn is. They often play an important role in determining the breathability of your beddings.

Weave type

Weave method forms the structure of a fabric and can essentially determine its strength and durability as well as it’s temperature regulating properties.

Sateen weave

The sateen weave method makes use of a one yarn under, and three or four yarns over construction pattern. This allows sateen weave bed linen to achieve that signature sheen and drape quality. Bedlinen utilizing this weave method also tend to be more wrinkle resistant than bed linen of other weave patterns.

Frequently Asked Questions about Our Luxury Bed Sheets

What is the best bedding material to buy?

Some of the best bedding materials to buy include TENCEL™, Bamboo, Silk and Linen. Other than personal preferences such as look and feel, there is a sustainability trend in which consumers are increasingly environmentally conscious of their expenditure. Hence, sustainable materials have risen in popularity over recent years. Read our ultimate bed sheet buying guide.

Are luxury sheets worth it?

Investing in luxury bed sheets like TENCEL™ sheets is worth it, as they provide users with many benefits such as enhanced breathability, anti-bacterial properties, being odourless, as well as being sustainable.

Are Egyptian cotton sheets good?

Egyptian cotton fitted sheets are good bed sheet options as their fibres are longer in staple length in comparison to other types of cotton fibres. This results in them being more durable and resistant to stress. They also have good colour retention properties due to their propensity to absorb liquids and are extremely soft and comfortable. However, this may not be the case for all Egyptian cotton sheets. Read on as we debunk the myths surrounding Egyptian cotton bed sheets and high thread count.

What is a good thread count?

A good thread count would range from 180 to 400, without exceeding 600 thread counts. This allows your bedding to be optimally comfortable and long-lasting while also allowing for consistent ventilation while you are sleeping.

Does thread count matter in bed sheets?

Yes, thread count is an important factor that can affect your sleep. However, bed sheet thread count should not be the sole key indicator when looking for quality sheets. This is because while thread count is often advertised prominently, there are other variables that determine sheet quality. As such, instead of fixating solely on the thread count, consider other factors like yarn quality, ply count, weave type, and material composition, as they all play a significant role in determining the overall quality and feel of your bed sheets.

How often should you change your bed sheets?

If you live in a warmer and more humid climate, you should change your bed sheets once every 1-2 weeks. Unfortunately, the quality of your bed sheets will diminish with age and frequent washing. Hence, you should always pay close attention to the care guide of your sheets for optimal washing frequency. Read our guide to learn more about the lifespan of your sheets and how often to wash them.

How many sets of sheets should you have per bed?

A rule of thumb to have is three sets of sheets per bed. This is so that when a bed sheet is in use, one has already been prepared as a replacement while another is at your disposal in case of an emergency. Learn more about how often you should replace your bed sheets.

What normally comes in a bed sheet set?

A typical bed sheet set will include 1 fitted sheet, 1 flat sheet and at least 1 pillowcase. Here at Weavve Home, our Fitted Sheet Set includes 1 fitted sheet and 2 pillowcases. We also provide individual add-ons for bed sheet separates, if needed.

Are bed linen and bed sheets the same?

No, bed linen and bed sheets are not the same. Bed linen refers to the cloth items that are part of the bed such as bed sheets, blankets, pillows, pillowcases, and other bed accoutrements that people can use to cover and protect their mattresses. Whereas, bed sheets refer to a sheet that can be made of different materials, that is laid above the mattress of a bed for hygiene, warmth, protection of the mattress, and as a decorative effect.

What are good bed sheets to buy?

Materials like cotton and linen are commonly used for sheets however we recommend TENCEL™ bed sheets. Buying TENCEL™ sheets comes with a lot of benefits such as being highly breathable, anti-bacterial and odourless, and not to mention sustainable. TENCEL™ is also great for hot sleepers as it prevents night sweats through thermoregulation. Click here to read our Ultimate TENCEL™ Guide.
