We sat down with Kaela, the General Manager at Black & Walnut, to have a chat with her about how Black & Walnut was founded and an interesting story from her experience working there.

Hi Kaela, we’re glad to have you on board as a partner. Please tell us more about yourself and your brand.
Hello, I’m the General Manager at D’Galleria. We were established in 2011 and Black & Walnut is one of our brands specializing in designer furniture for indoor. We carry a wide range of products for the living room, dining room, bedroom and workspaces.
How was Black & Walnut founded?
What inspires us is our love for beautiful and innovative furniture and we believe it is an extension of people’s lifestyle and personalities. But when you hear about designer furniture, you will naturally think it is costly and it should not be the case. We hope to offer originality and a touch of class in our products for our customers without compromising on quality, practicality, comfort and of course, affordability.
What got you interested in a partnership between your brand and Weavve?
As you know, we carry our own range of bedroom furniture and we believe that bedroom is a very personal area where we can have a good rest after a long day. The products and quality that Weavve has offered will be a good offering / value-added service where our customers do not need to make an additional trip to purchase especially during this COVID situation.
How do you see your brand’s positioning in the furniture market?
What makes us different is that we provide quality luxury furniture at an affordable price. Our factory has been supplying to 5-star hotels worldwide and we are experienced in providing furnishing solutions to both commercial & residential needs.

Share an interesting anecdote from when you first started in Black & Walnut.
I first started as a Sales Consultant with the company and our company is relatively young then. One of the challenges is convincing customers we are here to stay. Some customers are worried that if they pay for their indent orders, they might not get their items and there was this Uncle who was against paying anything more than $100.
The moment he stepped in, he asked about deposit payment without looking at any furniture. I was quite puzzled but as it turns out, he had a terrible experience where he didn’t get his furniture, nor did he get his money back.
He had a lot of uncertainties such as what if we wind up business or we are uncontactable and eventually, he was comfortable to make the payment but he concluded that I’m the daughter or related to the owners despite me telling him otherwise.
What are some of your bestsellers from your current collections?
I would say some of our best sellers will be the Grandchester and Mackay collection.
For Grandchester, our customers love the fine details such as the diamond stitching on the back and champagne gold finish legs and yet it is still very comfy.
As for Mackay, the furniture lines contribute to a sense of class and the down feather backing makes you want to lounge all day.
What's next for Black & Walnut?
Well, our 10th year anniversary is coming soon and we will be having new items that customers can look forward to. And in 2 years’ time, we are planning to have a new outlet closer and more accessible to our customers.
