Frequently Asked Questions

What does a konjac sponge do?

Konjac sponges can gently remove dead skin cells and excess sebum, which causes clogged pores and oily skin. It can be used to cleanse your face and body, and it is suitable for all skin types, even the sensitive and delicate skin of babies and kids.

When wet, the sponge has a slightly gel-like texture as there is a film of water that is formed due to the water retention ability of the konjac plant. This “water film” is what prevents scratches and abrasions on your skin, acting as a barrier between the fibres of the sponge and your skin.

What is a konjac sponge made of?

Konjac sponges are made from konjac, a porous root vegetable native to Asia. Glucomannan is a dietary fibre contained in the bulb of the konjac plant. Konjac cultivated in Japan contains glucomannan that solidifies into jelly and is made into the edible konjac, or konnyaku.

How do you sterilise a konjac sponge?

After every use, it is important to squeeze all the excess water out of your konjac sponge after every use, so it does not harbour any bacteria.

Do hang to dry in a place with good airflow.

Nonetheless, we recommend sanitising the sponge once every two weeks, or weekly if used every day.

To sterilise the sponge, place the sponge in a bowl of water and microwave it for 1:30 minutes, OR simmer the sponge in boiling water for about 3 to 4 minutes to kill makeup and dirt residue.

Is it okay to use a konjac sponge everyday?

The konjac sponge cleans deeply and is gentle enough for daily use. When used correctly, it should not irritate or pull / tug at your skin while gently buffing away dirt, dead skin cells and even make up.

How often should you change your konjac sponge?

Konjac is a 100% natural vegetable product and should last 1 to 3 months with gentle and proper care. Replace the sponge once it starts to look tired or breaks down. Our Konjac Sponges are biodegradable and can be composted.
