2 - Who May Benefit From a Weighted Blanket

Weighted blankets can benefit and reduce symptoms for various conditions including:

      - Insomnia

      - Anxiety

      - RLS (Restless leg syndrome)

      - Fibromyalgia

      - ADHD

      - PTSD

      - Seizures

      - Chronic Pain

      - Osteoarthritis

      - Autism

A weighted blanket can be used by almost everyone. Even if you do not have any particular condition, a weighted blanket's therapeutic and calming effects can still greatly benefit you by giving you quality and deep sleep every night!

3 -  Choosing the Right Weight and size

      For individual use

As a general rule of thumb, our recommendation is to select a blanket weight that’s roughly 10% of the intended user’s body weight for individual use.

      Sharing with a partner

For couples who would like to share the use of a single weighted blanket, the general guideline is to choose a blanket weight that’s roughly 7% of the combined weight.

Do keep in mind these considerations if you are thinking of sharing a blanket:

Firstly, the weight of each individual should not differ too much. Too much of a difference may lead to unequal weight distribution which results in limited effectiveness. A solution to this would be for both of you to get separate blankets.

Secondly, if there is a difference in sleeping styles. Do one of you prefer to be warm and snuggled up at night where the other prefers the cooling breeze from the air conditioner? If the sleeping styles between both of you do not match, sharing might not be suitable and an individual one would suffice.

Tip 1: If you're using this for general use, without specific conditions, we recommend going with a lower weight option.

If you experience sleep related conditions like insomnia or anxiety, selecting the weight based on the 10% guideline could help you experience a greater benefit from a heavier weight.

Tip 2: If you’re in between sizes, we recommend selecting the lower of the weight options.

Tip 3: The weighted blanket is designed to provide pressure across your body, hence it is okay if it does not fit your mattress size! The blanket should lay on top of the bed without hanging over at the sides.

Like any change to sleeping environment, it can take a while for both your body and mind to adjust to the blanket. While it may feel unnatural at first, give yourself sufficient time and you will soon be able to experience its wonders!

4 -  Are Weighted Blankets Hot?

You may wonder how the heavy blankets work in tropical climates, like sunny Singapore.

This is a common misconception about a weighted blanket. While the blankets are heavier than regular quilts, this does not mean the blankets are too hot.

In fact, you can enjoy a weighted blanket even when sleeping in a non air-conditioned room and still be comfortable.

We put careful thought into the design of our weighted blankets with the consideration of Singapore’s hotter climate in mind. The poly fill provides ample warmth and adequate breathability whilst satisfying fluffiness. The ideal fluffiness-breathability-warmth ratio for a cozy sleep in all seasons.

Tip: We recommend using it with our Lyocell duvet coverfor a cooler and softer touch, especially if you tend to feel hot at night. Do note that our weighted blanket does not come with a cover, though it can still be used without one.

Consider the Weighted Blanket with Lyocell duvet cover set

      5-  Getting Started

To ensure you are getting the best results from your Weighted Blanket, you will need to choose the correct size (& weight) and use it correctly. It’s important to ease into the use of your Weighted Blanket.

For the first few nights, sleep with your Weighted Blanket only across your legs.

For the next couple of days, cover half your body with the blanket.

When you feel comfortable with that, you are ready to experience all the benefits of a complete Weighted Blanket use by covering your entire body - from from your shoulders, down to your feet.

Once again, sleeping under a weight may feel unnatural for you at first so do give yourself sufficient time to get used to it! Typically it would take around 1-2 weeks for one to get fully accustomed to it, though it varies for every individual.

Tip: In order to achieve the long-term benefits of the Weighted Blanket, it is important to use it regularly over time. Once it has become part of your sleep hygiene, you will start noticing consistent quality sleep and an overall improvement in mood.

      6 - Wash & Care Guide

Because weighted blankets are designed differently as compared to typical blankets and duvet inserts, they require different care. To preserve the quality of the fabric and extend the life of your weighted blanket, utmost care should be taken when laundering them. You may also want to try airing your weighted blanket out on a sunny day in between washes.

      How Often to Wash

Generally, weighted blankets that are used with a duvet cover should be washed about four times a year. If it is used directly on the body, it will need to be washed more frequently. Hand washing your weighted blanket will help extend the life of the fabric as well as the filler. When in doubt as to whether a blanket is too large for a home washing, head to the laundromat.

      How to Wash

First and foremost, when washing a weighted blanket always use cold water. It is best to hand wash using a gentle laundry detergent free of bleach or fabric softener. For weighted blankets that weigh 9kg and lesser, you can machine wash (on its own) using a gentle wash and spin cycle. For weighted blankets that weigh 11kg, please check if your washing machine is able to handle the load.

      How To Dry

Taking proper precautions when drying the weighted blanket will keep it in good, useable condition for longer. For best results, line (hang) dry it naturally. When line drying, be sure that it hangs evenly so that the weight is proportionately distributed and it does not lose its shape. Consider draping the damp weighted blanket over a drying rack or chair.

      What To Avoid

Avoid soaking your weighted blanket in water over time. Avoid using detergent that contain bleach or fabric softener. As fabric softeners can build up in the material of the weighted blanket, causing it to feel scratchy or stiff. Avoid using a dryer as high temperatures may damage the glass beads. Lastly, avoid ironing your weighted blanket.

      Choosing Your Weight

Our recommendation is to select a blanket weight that’s roughly 10% of the intended user’s body weight, unless you strongly feel you want something heavier or lighter. And if you’re in between sizes, we recommend selecting the lower of the two weights.

      Getting Started
